How to Set Up the Save Card Feature in WP Easy Pay

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 242 views

The Save Card feature in WP Easy Pay allows customers to securely save their payment card details during checkout. Once saved, the card can be reused for future payments — without the customer having to re-enter their card information every time.

This feature is powered by Square’s secure card-on-file technology. Card details are never stored on your WordPress site. They are safely tokenized and stored in your Square account.

Why use this feature?

  • Saves customers time on repeat purchases
  • Reduces checkout friction
  • Card data is stored securely in Square, not on your server
  • Ideal for donation forms, memberships, and recurring customers

Note: This feature requires an active Square account connected to WP Easy Pay.

Step 1 — Enable Save Card on the Payment Form

This step is done by the website admin inside WordPress.

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Go to WP Easy Pay → All Forms from the left menu.
  3. Open an existing form or click Create Payment Form.
  4. Click the Form Settings tab.
  5. Scroll down and find the option “Enable save card for future use”.
  6. Toggle the switch to enable it.
  7. Click Publish or Update to save your changes.
Enable the save card option from the form settings

Result: Once enabled, a “Save card for later use” checkbox will appear on the frontend payment form for customers.

Step 2 — Customer Saves a Card During Checkout

This step is done by the customer on the frontend payment form.

  1. Open the payment form on your website.
  2. Fill in Basic Info (First Name, Last Name, Email).
  3. Select a payment amount.
  4. Enter Credit/Debit Card details under Add New Card.
  5. Check the box labeled “Save card for later use“.
  6. Click the Pay button to complete the payment.
Check the save card for later use option before submitting the form

Result: The card is securely saved in Square after a successful payment. The customer can now use it on future visits.

Step 3 — Customer Uses a Saved Card on Future Payments

On a return visit, the customer can select a previously saved card instead of entering new card details.

  1. Open the payment form on your website.
  2. Fill in Basic Info (First Name, Last Name, Email).
  3. Select a payment amount.
  4. In the payment section, click “Use Existing Card”.
  5. A list of previously saved cards will appear.
  6. Select the card to use — the selected card will be highlighted in blue.
  7. Click the Pay button to complete the payment.
View the use existing card option before checkout

Result: The customer completes payment using their saved card — no need to re-enter card details.

Tips & Notes

  • The customer must use the same email address on return visits for saved cards to appear.
  • Customers can save multiple cards — all will appear in the “Use Existing Card” list.
  • Customers can delete a saved card by clicking the trash icon next to it on the form.
  • You can verify saved cards in your Square Dashboard under Customers → Cards on File.

Troubleshooting

“Save card for later use” checkbox is not showing

  • Make sure the “Enable save card for future use” toggle is turned ON in Form Settings.
  • Save or publish the form after making changes.
  • Clear your browser cache and reload the form.

“Use Existing Card” option is not showing

  • The customer must use the same email they used when saving the card.
