How to Create and Add Discount Coupons in WP Easy Pay

Estimated reading: 9 minutes 120 views

The Coupons feature in WP Easy Pay lets you create discount codes for your payment forms. You can give these codes to your customers so they receive a price reduction at checkout.

You can set the discount as a fixed amount (e.g., $10 off) or a percentage (e.g., 15% off). You can also control which forms the coupon applies to, and set an expiry date.

Why use Coupons?

  • Reward loyal customers with discounts
  • Run promotional campaigns
  • Offer time-limited deals with expiry dates
  • Control which payment forms accept a coupon

Coupons work across all WP Easy Pay payment form types and amount types, including forms with Square synchronized products.

Steps to create and add a coupon

Here is the complete flow to set up and use coupons:

  1. Go to Coupons in the WP Easy Pay menu → Create a coupon
  2. Go to All Forms → Open your form → Enable the coupon toggle
  3. Test it on the front-end by entering the coupon code
  4. Verify the applied discount in the Reports module under the Reports Summary of the submission

For forms that use Square synchronized products, an additional step is required: enable the “Enable synchronization for simple products” toggle alongside the coupon toggle in the form settings.

Part 1: Create a Coupon (Back-End Configuration)

Step 1 — Go to the Coupons Section

  • Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  • In the left sidebar, click on WP Easy Pay.
  • Click on Coupons from the menu.

Step 2 — Open the Add Coupon Screen

You will see the Coupons screen. It shows a table with columns: Code, Amount, Type, Preference, Expires at, and Actions.

If no coupons have been created yet, the table will show “Not found“.

Click the + Add Coupon button at the top of the screen.

Create, edit, and view all coupons

Step 3 — Fill in General Settings

The Add Coupon page opens. You will see two tabs at the top:

  • General setting (selected by default)
  • Advanced setting
Set a custom coupon code or generate random one

You are now on the General settings tab. You will see a section called Coupon details with two fields:

Coupon Code

  • The Coupon code field is the actual discount code. You can type a custom code directly into the field.

Or click the Generate coupon code button to auto-create a random code (e.g., 9KHD710).

Add specific coupon description for internal use

Coupon Description

  • The Coupon description field is optional. Enter a short note about the coupon

(e.g., “This is a Demo Coupon.”) for your own reference. This is not shown to customers.

Step 4 — Fill in Advanced Settings

Click the Advanced settings tab to configure the discount rules.

You will see the following fields:

Advanced settings panel for adding a coupon, with fields for discount type, discount preference, amount, expiry date, and form filters; Publish panel on the right.

4a. Discount Type

Click the Discount type dropdown and select one of the following options:

  • Fixed discount: Deducts a fixed amount from the total. For example, if you enter 10, the customer gets $10 off the payment.
  • Percentage discount: Deducts a percentage from the total. For example, if you enter 15, the customer gets 15% off the payment.
Dropdown labeled 'Discount type' with 'Fixed discount' selected; options: 'Fixed discount' and 'Percentage discount'.

4b. Discount Preference

Click the Discount preference dropdown and select one of the following options:

  • With total: The discount is applied to the full payment total. The coupon reduces the final amount the customer pays.
  • Without total: The discount is applied before the total is calculated. Use this if you want the coupon to affect only the base amount.
Dropdown labeled Discount preference with options 'With total' and 'Without total'; 'With total' is currently selected.

4c. Coupon Amount

Enter the discount value in the Coupon amount field.

  • If you selected Fixed discount: enter the dollar amount (e.g., 50 means $50 off).
  • If you selected Percentage discount, enter the percentage (e.g., 15 means 15% off).

4d. Coupon Expiry Date

Click the Coupon expiry date field. A calendar picker will appear. Select the date when you want the coupon to stop working.

  • Format: DD-MM-YYYY (e.g., 30-May-2026)
  • This field is required. The coupon will not work and cannot be applied on the front-end form if this field is left blank.
  • Always set a valid future date to ensure the coupon is active and usable by customers.

4e. Forms Include

Use the Forms include dropdown to select which payment forms will accept this coupon.

  • Click the dropdown and check the forms you want to include.
  • Only the selected forms will allow customers to apply this coupon.
  • If you leave this blank, the coupon may work on all forms (unless excluded below).

4f. Forms Exclude

Use the Forms exclude dropdown to select the payment forms for which this coupon should not apply.

  • Check any forms you want to block from using this coupon.
  • This is useful when you want a coupon to work on most forms but not all.

Step 1 — Go to All Forms

  1. In the left sidebar, click WP Easy Pay.
  2. Click All Forms.

You will see a list of all your payment forms.

Step 2 — Fill in the Form

Step 5 — Complete the Payment

Click the Pay 150 USD button to complete the transaction with the discounted price.

Part 4: Verify Coupon Discount in Reports/Transactions

After a customer completes a payment using a coupon, you can verify the applied discount directly from the WP Easy Pay Reports module. This is useful for confirming that the coupon worked correctly and for keeping a record of discounted transactions.

Step 1 — Go to Reports

  1. In the left sidebar, go to WP Easy Pay → Reports.
  2. Find the form submission you want to verify.
  3. Click on the submission to open its Reports Summary.

Step 2 — Check the Discount Field in Reports Summary

Inside the Reports Summary, you will see a Payment Details section that includes the following fields: Payment type, Payment method, Transaction ID, Payment amount, Signup fees, and WPEP form.

Directly below that, look for the Discount field. This field shows the exact coupon discount amount that was deducted from the transaction.

For example, if a $50 fixed discount coupon was applied, the Discount field will show 50.00. The Payments amount field will reflect the final amount charged after the discount (e.g., 360.00 USD).

View the applied discount on each transaction

Step 3 — Review Line Items

Further down the Reports Summary, the Line Items section lists all the individual products that were part of the transaction — including their labels, quantities, unit prices, and costs.

This gives you a complete breakdown of what the customer purchased and confirms that the discount was applied to the correct total.

Tips, Notes & Troubleshooting

Tips:

  • You can create multiple coupons for different promotions or customer groups.
  • Use the Forms include and Forms exclude fields together to precisely control which forms accept a coupon.
  • Use an expiry date to automatically run time-limited promotions.
  • Coupon Code: The coupon code is case-sensitive. Make sure you share the exact code with your customers.
  • Publish Required: The coupon only becomes active after you click the Publish button. Saving as a draft will not activate it.
  • Enable Toggle Required: The coupon will not appear on a form unless the “Enable coupon on my form” toggle is turned ON inside the form’s Form settings tab.
  • Expiry Date: The Coupon expiry date field is required. A coupon with no expiry date set will not work and cannot be applied on the front-end form. Always set a valid future date when creating a coupon. A coupon that has passed its expiry date will also stop working automatically.

Troubleshooting:

Is the coupon code not working on the form?

  • Check that the toggle “Enable coupon on my form” is turned ON in the form’s Form settings tab.
  • Make sure the form is listed in the coupon’s Forms include field (or not excluded in Forms exclude).
  • Check that the Coupon expiry date field is filled in. A blank expiry date will prevent the coupon from working entirely.
  • Check that the coupon’s expiry date has not already passed.
  • Confirm the coupon status is Published.

Is the coupon discount not showing on the payment amount?

  • Verify the Coupon amount field is filled in correctly.
  • Make sure the Discount type is set to the correct option (Fixed or Percentage).

Is the “+ Add Coupon” button not visible?

  • Make sure you are using the Pro version of WP Easy Pay. The Coupons feature requires a Pro license.
